Promise of a storm, disappointed

Saturday, January 29th, 2011

There were some quite rough looking storm clouds rolling over throughout the day, so I was hopeful for something interesting this evening when I went to shoot, but unfortunately (from a photographic perspective) the storm seems to be another day away or so.

These came out ok, but I really would have been happier with more dramatic skies :)

By the way, still trying to get used to my wide-gamut monitor so if these are wayyy oversaturated please let me know!

A couple of nature/Landscape images with the 50 C-Sonnar

Saturday, January 22nd, 2011

This is arguably a portrait/low-light specialist lens. It is soft and fuzzy with a low contrast look and extremely low flare that make it great for pictures of people.

It also has tremendous resolution, and stopped down to f/4.0 and beyond it is very sharp, and has great punch. I also recently got a Dell U2711 monitor, and after seeing the change in these images (in converting them to sRGB instead of AdobeRGB for the web) it’s a real shame we don’t all have high-gamut monitors to see these images on. Particularly the intensity and vibrance in the oranges/reds gets sucked right out :(

Shot taken today of Claim The Throne. Blood added digitally so the guys didn’t have to wear the sticky messy stage blood they usually adorn.

A Ray Of Hope

Hopefully a sign of cloudier things to come! Getting sick of all these cloudless 35 degree days!

Spent quite a while at this spot getting hammered by waves. Came home quite wet and salty, both myself and the camera. I wonder why people complain about the M9 having no weather sealing, I’ve used mine in the rain and at the seaside with no ill effects.

Draining into the Ocean

The sky wasn’t doing anything so I took a picture of a storm drain. This would have worked much better with a 617 camera… One day.
