Scale focused environmental portraits
My new Alpa is proving quite apt at environmental portraits.
With a 35/5.6 lens you wouldn’t expect shallow DOF but it is the same visual appearance as a 24/3.8 in 35mm terms. So when you get in quite close you can selectively focus.
I have been playing around with scale focusing and the hit rate has been surprisingly good. Manual focusing with a focus scale has made me pretty good at judging distance over the years I guess.
Thanks to my girlfriend Sarah for being a good sport and posing for me
First Phase One P45 / Alpa 12 SWA shots
All 3 taken with 35mm Schneider APO-Digitar XL lens. The portrait shot wide open, see the crop for sharpness.
The Greatest Shave
Gig with Luke
Went and saw some acoustic performances with my mate Luke on the weekend.
All shots with the Sony RX100.
White Night Festival
Had a wild night out with my mate Luke and Sarah.
In the crowd I lost my Leica lens cap
annoying.
ATO 2.1
The most difficult to develop black & white film in the world IMO.
Rollei ATO 2.1 is an Orthochromatic (only sensitive to blue) true lithographic film.
A incredibly sharp S contrast curve requiring careful and dilute developer. A very thin 100 micron acetate base and coming in the dustiest box ever meant very difficult scanning and cleaning up.
Here is one acceptable shot. ISO 12, 135mm f/3.5 1/25s handheld.
Some more large format film
Here are a few shots, some with my new Razzle (the ones with very shallow DOF) and the others with the Ebony.

Took some snaps on my RX100 at Rebecca’s birthday on Sunday.
