Took a couple of snaps with the Alpa before getting myself and the camera soaked. It went alright, but it’s a shame about the boring sunset.

Alpa 12 SWA 35 Schneider APO-Digitar XL. I’ve included the image without the lens colour cast corrected just for interest sake.
I’ve also added a more neutral edit which I think I prefer. Lastly, I’ve just added a 100% crop.

Scale focused environmental portraits

My new Alpa is proving quite apt at environmental portraits.

With a 35/5.6 lens you wouldn’t expect shallow DOF but it is the same visual appearance as a 24/3.8 in 35mm terms. So when you get in quite close you can selectively focus.

I have been playing around with scale focusing and the hit rate has been surprisingly good. Manual focusing with a focus scale has made me pretty good at judging distance over the years I guess.

First time shooting with the P45 and Alpa SWA at night, not bad but it seems my UV filter created some intense flare.

Effect of SD card speed and capacity on noise in continuous shooting on M9

I took a set of 7 sequential images using 5 different cards.

A break of 30+ seconds between each card allowed the sensor to cool down.

All shots taken at ISO160 and pushed in post.

The first scene was pushed +2.62 on exposure and +79 on fill light.

The second scene was pushed +0.69 on exposure and +100 on fill light.

You can draw your own conclusion but I’m going out to buy more 2GB cards.
