One of the few seaside shots I've taken before the sun has set which I like. The texture in the foreground rocks along with the fluidity of the water convey what I find most interesting about shooting at the cost, the contrast.
  • One of the few seaside shots I've taken before the sun has set which I like. The texture in the foreground rocks along with the fluidity of the water convey what I find most interesting about shooting at the cost, the contrast.
  • A very simple seaweed covered rock on it's own in front of calm water at low tide.
  • A rock getting battered like an island in a storm.
  • I liked the path of obstacles the water had to pass to reach the sand in this shot.
  • The rocks rising from the foaming water look like the barnacle ridden scales of a hideous sea monster.
  • Reflections give us a great tool for expressing lines and shapes.
  • Anvil shaped clouds in the distance and a rainy morning cleared to give me some great pastel colours at the lakeside.
  • Different seaweeds and rock types gives a great variety of colours set against the plain grey sky.
  • Great timing with this stormfront approaching at just the right distance right at sunset. The Algae on the foreground rock was actually blue and is a rare species.
  • Some great colours with summer fires and a storm putting haze into the air.
  • The steps leading down to one of my favourite beaches.
  • This image is a testament to not leaving the site before the light. I had already gotten back into my car and was driving down the road when I saw this last fleeting light and had to run through the dunes and didn't have time to compose for a foreground element, so the sky is dominant in this image.
  • Great colour in the clouds and a curious seagull set this image off for me. Best printed LARGE to see the seagull.
  • The last gasp of sunlight before it sets.
  • I shot here around a year ago and had slightly lackluster skies. With encouragement from a friend I went there a couple of days in a row for sunrise and got a shot that I really like.
  • Finding unique shapes and incorporating them into a scene is one of my favourite things in landscape photography.
  • After a hard days hiking I went to beach in Kalbarri just as the rain rolled in.
  • Sometimes nature doesn't provide clouds when the rest of the elements are there for a great photograph. I chose to focus on the foreground elements as there weren't many clouds, in the end the colours and the interesting foreground worked out well.
  • A mountain stream carries water from recent rainfall through the Franz Josef glacial valley. The gold coloured rock is quartz.
  • Another as of yet unedited shot from my New Zealand trip.
  • A fantastic waterfall in the Catlins region of the South island of New Zealand
  • A large waterfall in the central South island of New Zealand near Wanaka. The river is in flood
  • The bench in front of these falls grabbed me as a perfect subject for this simulated large format image. It is 311 Megapixel so massive prints are possible before losing detail. Karekare is a black sand beach literally 2 minutes walk from this waterfall which bears the same name.
  • The Tarawera River in Kawerau, I've honestly never seen a clearer river in my life, especially considering it's source is a waterfall bursting through a wall of solidified volcanic lava flow about 60m high.
  • Bursting from fissures in the end of an ancient rhyolitic lava flow 11,000 years old, this waterfall is sourced from Lake Tarawera.
  • Another perspective on the fantastic Tarawera falls.
  • This is similar to my other shot of the falls but with sufficient depth of field to show both the bench and waterfall in focus.
  • Here is a shot of a boat moored inland on Waiheke island. Shot in infrared.
  • Here is a river of Sulfur-laden water, running through the Wai-o-Tapu thermal region and landing in Lake Ngakoro.
  • The view from the top of a small waterfall that has carved a narrow ravine down the side of the mountain in the Siberia valley near Makarora in the South island of New Zealand.
  • Here is a view from the base of Dawson Falls in the Mt Egmont National Park, West coast of the North island of New Zealand.
  • Here is a view from the side of Dawson Falls, Mt Egmont National Park, West coast of the North island of New Zealand.
  • These dead trees obviously thrived when water levels of Lake Wanaka were higher.
  • This waterfall was running rather heavily thanks to the recent rains on the West coast of New Zealand.
  • The gold coloured rock is quartz. This shot was taken in the bush near the Franz Josef glacier.
  • This is a bend in the very rough area of the river leading to the Huka falls. Central North island of New Zealand, near Taupo.
  • The first of many cascading falls in the Kaiate falls, Tauranga, North-East coast of New Zealand.
  • This is the main waterfall among the Kaiate falls. Quite a stunning location in the deepest part of the gorge.
  • This is another waterfall along the track to Karekare falls on the West coast of the North island of New Zealand.
  • This is the bottom waterfall and pool in the Wilkies Pools section of Mt Egmont.
  • This is the stream running out of Frying Pan Lake in the Waimangu Geothermal Park.
  • I was driving past and saw the waterfall, which is unnamed running down the hillside and under the road. It is astounding how many of these beautiful waterfalls exist around New Zealand's South island.
  • A short way out of Rotorua, Okere falls is the highest commercially traversed waterfall in the world.
  • This is one of the Moeraki boulders, calcite deposits formed millions of years ago and unearthed through erosion.
  • Another perspective of Purakaunui Falls.
  • Stormy conditions brought some rather big waves onto the shore of Lake Wakatipu in Queenstown New Zealand.
  • A broken boulder at Moeraki
  • This unnamed waterfall is in the Siberia valley, 2 days hike from Makarora, New Zealand
  • This stream ran from the snow, down through the Siberia track to join the Siberia river below. Near Makarora, New Zealand.
  • A sulfurous stream, carrying hot water through the wai-o-tapu geothermal region near Rotorua, New Zealand.
  • This was the highest stream we crossed on the Tuatapere Hump Ridge track in Fiordland, New Zealand. It is also the last stop for water before the hut 5 hours away, unfortunately someone had broken the rope used to retrieve water.
  • A very powerful waterfall, mostly inaccessible because of a river between it and the walking track. Near Wanaka, New Zealand
  • Taken from a swing bridge overlooking Blue Pools at the mouth of Blue River, oddly enough not very blue due to recent rain. Near Wanaka, New Zealand.
  • The long exposure takes away a lot of the drama and extremity of the Huka falls. Here, 200,000 litres of water plunge over the relatively low falls every second.
  • The day before the large mosaic of the river in flood, it was somewhat more tranquil and the falls were a lot lighter.
  • Rays of light bursting through the cloud. The cloud however is what I was hoping for after days and days of cloudless skies and blistering heat, a slight respite is welcome. Taken on West Australian coast about 50km North of Perth.
  • I noticed this straight split in the rock while I was strolling down the beach waiting for a bright sunset that never really eventuated. The failing light did bring a nice purple hue though. One of my favourite shooting locations, even in summer it isn't crowded.
  • I like the round cavities created by wave action at this beach I frequent. Bushfires during the day attributed to the strong and warm light during sunset.
  • The rocks at this location are fantastic, they change with the shifting sand, and are several layers carved by the ocean. I sat at this little confluence of 5 channels through the rocks until the water finally met.
  • I was actually half-way back to my car when I realised the haze in the air (from recent bush fires) was holding the light from the sunset long after the sun had set. I rushed back, found a lucky spot and took this 90 second exposure is very low but vibrant light.
  • I got a little soaked standing here each time a wave came in, and had to jump up with the camera a few times to avoid catastrophe. The red hue in the sky is a combination of the sunset and stacking graduated ND filters. Very little post-production done here, believe it or not. Taken at Burns Beach.
  • A mediocre sunset but it set an interesting mood. This was shot on Kodak E100G 4x5" film.
  • This is Stephenson Falls in the Yarra Ranges near Melbourne. The shot was taken on Fuji Velvia 50 4x5" film.
  • A great spot along the West Australian coast, I noticed the water would pour over the edge of this rock whenever a big wave came in. I set up and waited patiently to grab one shot before the camera got too wet. This was taken just before the sun went down to catch the light in the haze from recent burns. Shot on Fuji Velvia 100 4x5" film

  • A very nicely built deck and house by Studio8.
  • Great open plan kitchen and living room.
  • Very open plan upper floor.
  • Stunning views overloooking the ocean.

  • I thought the leading lines of the makeshift road leading into the unknown worked well with the otherworldly nature of the spires at The Pinnacles in Cervantes.
  • Western Australia gets very brown and dry in summer, here, some clouds bring the hope of a little rain.
  • Liffy Falls in North-East Tasmania. Very slippery riverbed.
  • This shot is 4 exposures with a graduated filter blended to control the extreme rising sun in Kalbarri.
  • The vast variety of vegetation on the dunes in Kalbarri at sunrise.
  • A 32s exposure to capture the motion of the cars. Shot from a walk-way bridge that shook every time someone walked behind me, suffice to say the shot took a few takes.
  • A mutilated tree, like so much of the foliage in the hotter parts of WA has been tortured into convoluted shapes by the unrelenting heat of the sun.
  • A river running through black volcanic sand down to Karekare beach at sunset.
  • Looking back from Akaroa, on the summit road back towards the Canterbury plains and Christchurch.

  • Te Mata Peak, near Havelock North, in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.
  • A valley at the end of the Siberia track. Near Makarora, New Zealand.
  • Appearing like something from the Lost World novels by Michael Crichton, the Waimangu geothermal region is relatively young, only about 160 years. Near Rotorua, New Zealand.
  • This is another simulated large format image, around 200 megapixel. The island in the distance is Mana Island near Porirua New Zealand.
  • The Champagne Pool in Rotorua, New Zealand. The hot spring was formed some 900 years ago by a hydrothermal eruption. It is 62 metres deep, and the water temperature at the bottom is 260°C (500 °F) but looses heat rapidly towards the top where it is a balmy 73°C at a pH of 5.5
  • This is a little section of the forest off the path on the way Fantail Falls, near Wanaka, New Zealand. Shot in false-colour infra-red and then the colour shifts due to incident angles of different wavelengths of light on the digital sensor were exaggerated in post processing.

  • This is an image of the river emerging from the end of the Franz Josef Glacier.
  • The peninsular bay of Kaikoura changes tides quite dramatically, and weather. I managed to get this one image captured before getting drenched
  • Like most bodies of water in New Zealand, Lake Wanaka has some fantastic colour.
  • This was the sunrise at Okaka Lodge on the Tuatapere Hump Ridge track. In Fiordland, on the South island of New Zealand.
